Shape bistability in 2D chromonic droplets

An extensive experimental study of the shapes two-dimensional bipolar droplets chromonic nematic phase disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) sandwiched between glass plates, by Kim et al was published in (2013 J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 25 404202). The paper includes a mathematical model this system. We have extended further theoretical modelling. Our results are good, quantitative agreement with data. has produced what promises to be more accurate estimate for isotropic surface tension at nematic/isotropic solution interface—and predicts regime shape bistability (which not yet been observed) larger droplets, where tactoids (pointed, zeppelin-shaped droplets) and smooth-edged discoids can coexist equilibrium. general method presented is also applied formed F-actin filaments solution, which an given value interface.
